Everyday Decisions and Your Good Looks

Looking good feels great. It’s certainly better than the alternative! But, unless you’re a Hollywood movie star, a supermodel, or someone else with an army of assistants and lots of free time, then you’re probably not spending hours and hours out of each day perfecting your good looks.

Or are you? While you may not sit down and obsess with makeup for hours on end every day, you’re still doing an awful lot every day that will affect your good looks. From the way the foods you eat affect your waistline to the quick routines that keep your skin beautiful, the little things you do daily, weekly, and monthly can really add up! That’s why it’s important to pay attention to your health and beauty habits. Here are a few things to consider.

Healthy living and your looks

There’s more to health than just your weight — much more! But there’s no denying that being trim and athletic will go a long way towards making you look your best in a conventionally attractive sort of way. Plus, being physically healthy will make you better looking in all sorts of ways, giving you everything from a brighter smile to better skin.

So what does healthy living look like in the context of everyday life? Simple: It just means eating right and exercising. “Eating right” means eating whole foods instead of processed ones, and putting an emphasis on vegetables and fruits. A plant-based diet is a healthy diet and will make your skin glow! Meanwhile, you should be exercising regularly: 150 minutes a week is the minimum. That translates to a half-hour a day, five days a week.

If you’re severely overweight, see your doctor make a plan about losing the excess weight as quickly as possible while still being healthy. You may even want to consider surgical options like a sleeve gastrectomy.

Daily skin care

Your skin is a huge factor in your looks. As we grow older, our skin breaks down and begins to wrinkle. But how quickly and how severely that happens depends a great deal on how we care for our skin — meaning that proper skin care can quite literally make you look younger for longer.

So how should you care for your skin? By washing it! Wash your body daily, and wash your face twice a day (once in the morning and once at night). Use a gentle cleanser on your face (no harsh soaps, please!) and moisturize afterward. And one more thing: Use sunscreen! Experts recommend using a sunscreen every day that you go outside, rain or shine, summer or winter.

Hair care

Caring for your hair is a crucial part of beauty, but it may not be as tough as you think it is. For one thing, you don’t even need to wash it every day! In fact, you shouldn’t: Experts tell us that relatively few people need to wash their hair daily. Unless you’re working out every day and sweating, you should probably wash your hair two or three times a week, and perhaps even less often than that! Try different routines and see what works best for your hair.

Hair can vary quite a bit, so get some advice tailored to your hair type by visiting a trusted local salon. Don’t just go to whichever one is closer: Take a moment to Google search “hair salons near me” and read some reviews. Pick one that looks reputable and go in for a trim — and, while you’re there, pick the brain of your stylist and pick up some advice on how to handle your hair better every day.

Keep at it!

Daily routines can make or break your looks, so be sure to pay attention to them. Forming and changing habits can be tough, but consistency is key: Doing things right day after day and week after week is what will allow you to look your best!
